Just ignore this. I'm revamping a site, and I need somewhere to put these:
Once I set up the new boards, I'll move these back.
Name: Katara
Age: Fourteen
Nation: Southern Water Tribe
Bender?: Yes - Of Water
Physical Appearance:
Katara is a relatively tall teenage girl, with a trim figure, and long slender legs. She is pretty curvy around the hips, and is elegant. Her feet are rather petite as well. She is an excellent runner, and can jump high. Her arms are pretty long and soft, aside from her bony elbows. Despite being taller than most girls her age, she tends to be graceful on her feet, and has remarkable hand-eye coordination and balance. Speaking of her hands, they are soft and delicate, and she keeps the nails on both her fingers and toes well pampered. Her feet now endure a lot of walking, due to her travels with Aang and Sokka, so she performs daily healing sessions on them in order to keep them looking pretty and healthy. In other words, no ugly foot cuts or blisters for Katara. The girl's skin tone is fairly dark, and is common among the citizens of the water tribes.
Her head his rather large, with bright hopeful eyes that glow a shimmering sapphire. Her cheeks are rather smooth, and the cheek bone itself is hardly noticeable due to the baby fat she still has. Her ears are kind of small, and are more rounded than pointy. Her hair is a dark auburn color, and is described as, at times, a puffy mess. She's been known to keep it bunched up in a bun with two strands that loop around the side. In this style, the long back portion is kept in a warrior braid, that goes down to her butt. It flails back and fouth in the wind, and when she runs. Katara tends to experiment with her hair though, and is seen, at times, with her hair down long, or combinations of both. It's usually long and pretty messy when unmanaged.
Clothing/Armor: Typically, her attire consists of a dark aqua and silver water tribe garment, which sort of resembles a skirt, but at the same time, a robe. At the top, its sort of a loose, short-sleeve shirt, which forms down her body into a long thin flap, that flails in the wind. Holding most of it to her waist is a sky-tone belt, The whole top is made of a light material. The pants she wears are tight, and of a darker, almost navy blue. These are met with dark leather boots that start just below her knee, and go down to cover her little feet. Though sometimes she wears leather fur boots, or matching sandals in warmer climates. These provide much protection to her shins and feet. Her wrists and hands are protected by gauntlets, of a matching color to the rest of her clothing. On top of this casual outfit, she often wears an Anorak Coat if she is somewhere cold, like either of the water tribes for instance. The coat is a soft shade of blue, and his a fur lining. Probably that of wolf or bear. The coat is long, reaching down nearly as far as her ankles. It provides excellent warmth, and protection from storms. At the waist, fur from the same animal creates almost a stylish belt, and the same can be found at the very bottom. the coat doesn't appear to open in the center, and instead seems to be a pull-over. The chest is decorated with two dark zig-zaging strips. The shoulders of the winter coat contain loose fluffy fur that seems to dangle off to the side. Where ever there is stitching, it's thick and dark and seems to belong. When she wears the Anorak, she also wears huge mittens on her hands, to keep them warm as well. They covered her standard wrist-band wrappings, and are like-colored to the rest of her garments.
That is what she usually wears. Though, she will change her clothing to match whatever theme is necessary. For instance, if she were to infiltrate an unfriendly ship, she may find that she looks best in their garments as opposed to that of the water tribe, and perhaps something lighter than might be required down at the south pole. Obviously, as a water bender, she spends much time at the beach. Here, she might sport more water-friendly clothing than say...a dress. But whether her hair is long and droopy, or in that sort of bunched up state, it's clear that she favors the blue tribe outfit. And she wears it proudly when she can. That's who she is after all.
One thing she always tends to wear unless, unless dire emergency would prevent it, is the betrothal necklace her mother gave her. It is a blue choker necklace, with the water tribe insignia on the hanging precious ornament. The sphere-shaped piece is made from a rare stone, and sparkles in the sun. It was a gift to her grandmother from Lord Pakku, a ex-boyfriend from her youth.
Weapons: Water in every form. Though she doesn't much care for hand to hand combat, Katara can strike fast with water, ice, and vapor. Water can be found in virtually anything, Including Katara's own sweat. Toph once described her as a "sweaty, smelly genius" while she broke them out of a holding cell, using her own body sweat. Katara can use water and ice like an armor by wearing it. She uses it to absorb attacks, and uses the octopus tentacle technique to lash back out. She also has another gift, and perhaps her most important ability of all to suit her motherly character. And that, is the art of healing... No, she can't snap her fingers and make you feel good as new, but she can turn a mortal would into something survivable.
Personality.: Katara could be a deadly force to be reckoned with if she wasn't so fragile and sweet. Even when thrown into a cell where Zuko ended up, she wanted to help him with his scar. And what happened soon afterward? Zuko attacked Katara and the Avatar with his sister Azula. She's naive and over trusting, and boys take advantage of it. Zuko and Jet are both guilty of this at some point during their respective encounters with Katara early on. Zuko's case has been explained, but Katara was gullible to not only trust Jet, but also help relieve the pressure of the water under the earth. She not only promoted the flooding without knowing it, she actually aided Jet's plan to flood a village that the fire nation was occupying.
Katara relies heavily on her more street-smart brother, who sees the danger in things way earlier than Katara and Aang. He warned her about Zuko. And he warned that Jet had attacked an innocent old man. Both of the times, he was right about the danger. But Katara's somewhat naive persona is the very embodiment of optimism, and though ironic, at times Sokka relies on her for hope. Infact, many people in the battered war-torn world need a voice like hers; a voice of hope and freedom in a time of crisis and despair. It was Katara's strong-willed empowering speech that led a ship full of earth tribe prisoners, to conquer and overthrow the oppressive fire-nation regime. Katara has a will of steel, despite some of her flaws.
After Katara's mother died, she did all the cooking and cleaning around her house. Katara has a certain motherly approach to the members on her inner friend circle, which would include her Brother Sokka, and the Avatar Aang. Later on, this group grows to include the blind earth bending prodigy, Toph... She's had a few squabbles with the latter, and some of these have escalated into full blown element-bending cat-fights. but all in all, the two respect and care for each other. She's always there for them when they feel down, or just want someone to talk to. Katara's fairly bright, and though Sokka tries to come up with most of the crazy plots, she's been involved in a fair share of her own.
When annoyed, Katara can get rather grouchy and is capable of having a hot temper too sometimes. But this feelings lasts only a short period of time most of the time, and she easily forgives people. Although, people who betray her trust are often responded to with a harsh, and often blunt, bitter attitude. On numerous occasions, both she and Sokka have gotten angry at Aang for silly things he's done, and wanted to leave...Like when Aang hid the where-abouts of their father due to feeling left out. And she got really angry at Prince Zuko when he attacked them in Ba Sing Se.
Background: Born in a small water tribe village in the south pole, Katara lived with her mother, father, grandmother, and older brother Sokka. When she was born, Sokka was to young to realize that much was different, as he was still in diapers himself, and had yet to learn to walk. Katara was a well mannered little baby, and a cute one at that. Sure, she cried some. All babies do. But she mostly kept to herself when she wasn't hungry, or in need of a diaper change.
Her mother was extremely loving, and her father was much closer to Katara in those days. Though he admittedly had hoped to raise a second boy, Hakoda was extremely proud of his little girl. he took her on piggy backs, and made funny faces for chuckles as she was a tiny little thing. As a young child, she would go on long walks across the ice with Gran Gran while the old lady spoke of her life. Katara caught on to things really fast. Gran-Gran taught Katara about the great warriors of the water tribe, and how the land used to be, before the first raid where everyone including lady Hamma were taken prisoner, though she hadn't mentioned that woman's name ever. Katara also received education about the simpler things in life from her parents and Gran-Gran, including her place as a water bender, Penguins, tying knots, and ice fishing. It wouldn't be for a few more years, however, that Katara would learn how to control her powers. Not until she took a liking to throwing snow at her older brother.
At the age of eight, she encountered a true test of her spirit. The fire nation invaded, and her tribe was greatly outnumbered. The southern raider clan's leader, Yan-Ra, intruded her family's igloo and threatened her mother. When Katara found the two of them, her mother insisted that she run away. After demanding the last remaining water bender in the entire tribe, Yan-Ra believed her mother's story that she was the bender. Her mother suggested that she be taken captive, but Yan-Ra insisted that they were not taking any prisoners... By the time Katara could return to the house with her father Her father, Yan-Ra and her mother were gone. She remembers the face of the monster who did it... And she hates his guts...
No one except for Gran Gran, Katara's Father and Sokka knew of Katara's bending ability until after the death of Kaya. This would change though, as the traumatized kid went to bed that night...Without even realizing it, Katara destroyed her family's igloo during a nightmare she had, and it was pretty hard to hide the fact after that. Some of the tribe was angry that she wasn't handed over to avoid casualties. Others sympathized with Katara's grieving family... The next couple of years were difficult for her family. Fragile smiles were easily cast away by mere mention of the fire nation. Indeed, it was clear that the water-tribe's men were thirsty for revenge, while the women and children attempted to put the pieces together.
Her Grandmother took over much of Katara's upbringing, as her father and the other men would go hunting and fishing. her mother had never gotten the chance to show her young daughter how to skin and clean fish, or cook food. This was Gran Gran's doing. The bond she shared with her brother only strengthened during this period of her life, and she became interested in wandering further and further away from the tribe camp with him. One day, the two started playing in the snow while wondering, and got into a snowball fight. Katara's bending was not very developed, but she did sometimes make incoming snow stop before it could hit her. Sokka called it cheating.
Against his better judgement, Katara's father left when she was twelve; her father along with other tribes men journeyed to the Earth Kingdom. Although Katara understands the reasoning now, she was very hurt and disappointed with her father's decision. She felt abandoned by it... The water and earth forces had an alliance of sorts against the fire nation. Since then, her grandmother and Sokka, and her tribe, were all that she had left. Katara, as the oldest girl left besides her grandmother, took delicate care of the little ones. She taught them how to make snow-people, and snow angels. She told them stories at night, and tucked in many of them while Gran Gran did the same for others. Now the age gap was quite relevant between Katara and her brother, and the smaller children...and sometimes Katara felt lonely that there were no other girls her age. perhaps it helped though, that Sokka was silly enough to fill the role.
Prior to discovering the Avatar locked away in ice, Sokka and Katara mainly just looked out for each other, and prayed that there would be no further invasions. Sokka mainly played the role of a warrior, as the oldest male of the tribe. Katara, was a lot like the tribe mother in a great number of ways. As Gran Gran's health started to diminish, Katara took up the chores of cooking and cleaning for the youngsters. She also, along with Sokka to some extent, taught them about the world, and the water tribe's history, and anything else a young citizen would need to know.
Two years after the departure of her father, Sokka and Katara were fishing in a little boat off shore. While Sokka used a conventional fishing line, Katara got creative and used her then-weak water bending. Katara had never received a formal lesson in water bending to this point, because she was the lone surviving southern water bender aside from Hamma who she had yet to meet. Anyways, after soaking Sokka by accident, the two of them discovered a young Air Normad locked away in an icy prism. Katara jumped desperately between the little pieces of ice in the water, and took full swings at the ice with a club. Eventually, a great light emerged, and so did Aang, the 112 year-old fun-loving avatar. Its quite clear that on their way back to the village at least, or perhaps even at first glace, Aang and Katara developed a crush on each other. This was outlined rather heavily by the fact that Aang couldn't stop staring at her while they traveled back to the tribe on Appa.
She was greatly impressed by his airbending, and asked him if he would help her develope her water-bending. Aang wants to help, but explains that he is an airbender. Later on, the two go Penguin sledding, and get to know each other. Katara is forced to break the news to Aang that war has broken out in the 100 years he's been gone. Sokka was skeptical of Aang, accusing him of trying to alert the fire nation. But Katara assured him that Aang was nothing to fear. Aang proposed that he and Katara go to the northern water tribe to master her element. Katara clearly knew about the tribe from her Grandmother's stories...but experience was more thrilling than bed-time stories. She and Sokka agreed to join him. They left after thwarting an attack by Prince Zuko and his men.

It had been constantly changing between drizzle and snow for weeks up in the Northern Water tribe city. But that was just the way liked it up there anyway...water, snow...it didn't matter. That was their way of life. Katara's way of life. And though she was from the opposite end of the planet, she felt very much at home to be among her own kind. She had been harnessing more skill... hanging around with people as layed back as Aang and Sokka sometimes made her lazy...and so she decided to take a break and get some real practice in. Proclaimed a master of water, it didn't seem like Katara really had much to learn...
She had been swinging a water whip around for a little while, but she had grown somewhat bored of it. She pouted slightly, and kinda wished her brother would show up to make a joke. Though shameless raw humor is what she'd get, as she turned her head to the left, only to get slammed in the face with a massive snowball that exploded on impact. This of course was followed by childish giggling...now Katara couldn't currently see, but she could tell the voice was of an annoying male child...he sounded almost like Aang, except even more annoying. The cold snow was normally pleasant for her...but to be blind-sided in the face...the girl growled...and rather promptly removed the flaky frozen surprise off of her face.
"Where are you, you little..." She asked, checking her surroundings. She wasn't pleased... Not because throwing a snowball was an act of war or anything, but because who ever did it, had just interrupted a training session.
Another bomb of frozen goodness came her way, but she spotted it this time...and she sent it back and knocked the kid off of the roof of the igloo he threw it from. Ugh.." he groaned as he fell and smashed his knee. Katara immediately felt bad, and ran off to see if he was ok. "Dumb kid...are you okay? You should know that I'm a master of snowball fights...I'm notoriously good at them...' She warned. "You shouldn't be ambushing people like that anyway...and standing up on an igloo isn;t exactly safe either...be careful..." She said, as she offered him a hand. The kid was okay, as he landed in a big snowbank. He humbly took her hand, and she pulled him to his feet. "Sorry..." he said, before running off. She shrugged, and watched for a few seconds.
